• National dress – Gho & Kira
  • In spite of being one of the smallest countries in the world, Bhutan has a diverse and unique way of life around corners guided by religious values and culture expect, Among many is the national dress.
  • National dress of man of Bhutan is called as ‘gho’. It is long robe hoisted up under his knee length. The hoisted cloth is held in plan with a woven cloth called belt kera wound around waist.
  • Hoisted up cloth forms a large pouch, where we can keep our traditional betel nut and bowel.
  • National dress for man can be seen in different type of pattern, which is woven by different fabric. (Fun fact it’s one of the largest pockets)
  • National dress of women is called Kira, they also use belt known as ‘kera’ to tight their Kira from waist. It’s also made up of woven fabric intricate with traditional patterns and worn in bright colour. They also wear wonju and tego colour matching with kira.Tego and wonju short and open jacket like garments. The intricately woven Kira enhance the beauty and graceful manners of women in Bhutan. Kira is a floor length rectangular piece of cloth wrapped around body and held from the shoulders by broach like hooks called “koma” which is made out of gold.
  • Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel have introduce national dress of Bhutan in 17th century to lead a unique identification of Bhutan. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel have introduced our national gho and Kira to protect our unique culture, with his introduction of our national dress code it helped.as to promote our culture. All the official have to wear gho for man and Kira for woman for their office hours.

  • Bhutanese people enjoy wide range of foods. Its characteristics can very form place to place in the country. But in common concrete description cab be given as spicy, bitter. Sour and sweet. Bhutanese enjoy spicy foods and curry which has a soup and it’s unlike rest of the countries in the world. Some of the common verities of food items are Emma –datshi stew made up of chilies and cheese, Kawa datshi potato and cheese dried meats, and red rice which is the special food of Bhutan.
